IMO it would be foolish to smoke while cleansing. Stanley Burroughs recommends putting a little oil of clove on the back of your tongue with your finger every time you crave a cigarette and you will immediately lose the desire to smoke!
After three days on the cleanse (and OFF the smokes) you should have eliminated most of the addictive substances from your system. As with coffee withdrawal, expect headaches during this rapid detox.

Smoking is what brought me to this great site. I'm planning on starting the day I quit. I really want to flush the bad stuff out! I waiting on the syrup - I had to order it, and then I'll be ready to go! |

"2Happy" A nutritionist said to try clover oil and when you have a craving take a little drop on you finger and put way back of your tongue . The craving is suppose to go away. You might want to at least give it a try, it is about $6.00. Let me know if you try it. I will be anxious to find out.

Honestly, I've quit many times. I'm pretty darn good at it cold turkey. I'm just not good at staying quit! And, since I'm trying to get healthy in all ways, it just seemed like the perfect time to do them both - and help my body push out the bad stuff. Of course, this will be the first time quitting without shoving 20 carrots in my mouth everyday!!!

But seriously, I stopped smoking on May 1st, 2000, almost 8 years ago with the assistance of the MC, and I haven't had a puff since.

I had my last cigarette about two hours before I drank my herbal laxative tea at bedtime. The next morning I did the SWF and spent the rest of the day drinking the lemonade, throwing away ashtrays, washing curtains and getting rid if any remnants or reminders of smoking.
The week preceeding, I tapered off, slowly allowing my body to withdraw from the nicotine addiction, so that by the day I quit I only smoked one cigarette. The MC/Lemonade Diet helped greatly, I don't know if I could have done it without it.
I was inspired greatly by this book, which I read in one sitting, click on: The No-Nag, No-Guilt, Do-It-Your-Own-Way Guide To Quitting Smoking. by Tom Ferguson, M.D. I highly recommend it.

Thanks tons! It gives me even more confidence : ) I'd like to also mention to any others who may read this thread, that http://www.quitsmokingonline.com is an excellent resource. Allen Carr also wrote a book called The Easy To Quit Smoking, and it's almost identical to the website mentioned. Both fabulous.

Lemme first congratulate you all on making one of the BEST decisions of your life! I quit smoking on 4/11/07 and I used the Master Cleanse to help. It really is amazing how the craving for nicotine diminishes throughout the cleanse. And I had tried the patch, gum, cold turkey- you name it. And for 2happy- just wanna give you a great alternative to carrots (yeah- did that too!) Toothpicks infused with tea tree oil- you can find them at many natural food stores. I also found them in cinnamon flavor, but I like the tea tree the best. Chewing on them is calorie free, and gives your mouth a spicy/fresh feeling. Also, to aid in lung recovery, consider liquid chlorophyll as a daily supplement- also found at health food stores. GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks for the advice, that's a great idea. Would it be ok to do this during the MC? I assume yes..... |

Hi there.
I bought from the Health Food Store:
Wild Rose Addiction substance abuse drops. They told me that they have customers coming back and saying they were successful from quiting smoking. I am not a big smoker and wanted to quit so I start tomorrow. Will let you know and it is worth a try. I wish you all well with quiting. Jude

No crackers and stop the smoking while on the cleanse, put a bit of clove oil on your fingertip and touch it to the back of your tongue when cravings get bad. BTW, this is what Burroughs recommends.

Hi Laura,
Of course the cleanse won't "make" you quit smoking, it will help you get the addictive nicotine and other toxic substances in cigarettes out of your system in record time after you make the choice and the committment to quit.
Try the clove oil and simply put off that next cigarette, telling your self you'll have one later. It's like a sign I saw in a cafe "free coffee TOMORROW".

Hi.
I am planning to start the Master Cleanse on Monday....I have read almost all of the book by Tom Woloshyn...which is why I m waiting until Monday to start this thing up. I like to be as knowledgeable as possible about things before I do them.
I can't find anything in the book about smoking so I searched the internet and found this thread.
I understand that smoking is not good for you and that is would be counterproductive to smoke while doing the cleanse. I am a smoker though and I have heard so many conflicting things concerning smoking while on the cleanse. Some people say it's fine (which obviously it's not encouraged). And others strongly suggest not smoking at all.
My real concern is that I am not sure if I can just quit cold turkey....I already drink a lot of coffee and sweet tea is like heroin to me. So, I am looking forward to the headaches!
I read the stuff about the clove oil and I am definitely going to try it. I want to not smoke while I do this because I have read that it is possible to quit all together with this cleanse. Which would be good as far as my health is concerned. And what I am about to say is going to sound absolutely ridiculous I am sure but...I haven't really had the desire to quit yet...I guess I am in the stage where you still enjoy cigarettes because I just like smoking them. I know that sounds moronic and I don't want to give the impression that I am naive or stupid...I am just being honest.
The other thing is that I smoke marijuana on a regular basis...not in massive quantities or anything but a fair amount. Please understand that I have my reasons for doing so and I am not looking for someone to preach to me at all.
I am just looking for some sound advice/feedback about whether or not that will hinder the process.
Thank you in advance for anyone who can help me. Though a person who smokes may seem hypocritical to be concerned with health..I truly am. I have had alot of problems with my stomach....I have had every kind of test done that is possible and the best they can do is tell me I have irritable bowel syndrome...even though I only suffer from a small percentage of the symptoms associated with it.
I have completely switched from traditional medicine to holistic methods for my stomach. I am blind as a bat so I still have to buy into traditional medicine sometimes also I have never heard of a holistic gynecologist...at least not where I live.
So, anyway, let me know what you think. |

a bit of non-judgmental support for you. give yourself 10 days. do the clove oil stuff. the cravings do somehow stop. i don't know how. but just don't focus on the smoking; focus on the detox process and what is happening to your body, step by step. on the message board, there is "stages to detox" link which is pretty cool and interesting.
also, try a bit of extra cayenne in your lemonade if you can handle it. i find that the lingering hot taste kills some of the craving and also satisfies some of that oral fixation of having something in your mouth. (the taste is still there.) i know that sounds strange, but sort of works for me unintentionally.
just focus on the detox and giving yourself this space and time. if you want to go back to smoking afterwards, well then decide that later. i think that the "finality" of saying you're quitting can sometimes make you knee jerk and want one.
instead, pay attention to what is happening to your skin, your BMs each time you flush out gross plaque and stuff we let accumulate, the toxins surfacing on your tongue, etc. and browse the message board a lot to spend time!
good luck and hang in there. go with it.

I just want to give a huge thumbs-up to all of you who are trying to quit smoking! Way to boycott an industry that's horrible for people, animals, and the environment. I smoked in college, and kicking it was hard. Up until the cleanse, I would still smoke when going out drinking. Now, I don't really go out drinking... if I have a drink it's all-natural vodka on ice or organic red wine without sulfites... and the smell of cigarettes makes me want to vomit!
Quitting smoking is the best decision you will ever make. And the cleanse is the best way to do it. Think about it - you're going to feel like doodoo and crave everything else no matter what. So just ditch the cigarettes and go hang with fellow non-smokers. Get some wooden coffee stirs from Starbucks and chew on them since you can't have gum. Put all the pulp in your lemonade and add extra cayenne pepper to give you a "kick." When I quit smoking, I spent a lot of time doing the stretch where you stand and bend over to let blood rush to my head. I also exercised and napped a ton. Oh, and get peppermint tea - it's allowed on the cleanse - and drink it whenever you want a smoke. To have something to do with your hands? Keep busy - play board games, garden, or start a sewing project.
Here's what you'll get as a result - lower blood pressure, healed lungs, and *years* added to your life. And those with stomach problems - cigarettes contribute to those. __________________ elizabeth |

| Hi, I'm currently at the very end of my first day well since it is technically past midnight the beggining of my second day and after reading all of your comments about smoking and how bad it affects the toxin removal of the detox I've decided to light up my very last cigarette this very moment before I go to bed and start my second day. I've been wanting to quit for a very long time now and I told myself that the only way I would stop is if my fiancé got pregnant. It's a he. I'm not talking literally him with a baby in his tummy. But anyways I think I would just be happier completely letting go of all unhealthy substances and it'll be really hard but honestly even though its only my first day on this cleanse I have not had the urg to smoke other than to past the time with to keep my mind off of food. The headaches are mainly making me want to quit. I know I'd be saving a lot of money quitting which is a plus. Another complication is a few months back me and my fiance lost our home so we moved back in with relatives and are living in separate houses currently and we see each other almost every day but he is a junk food eater. He has his health food freak days but he loves Mexican food . And smokes like a chimney so this is seriously going to be one of the biggest challenges vie ever faced luckily he worked late today the first day of my cleanse and I know he would've wanted to go get food and that would have been a bad temptation for my first day so I guess it was a good thing and I have fasted years ago so I know that usually after the first day my stomach adjusts to the idea of no solids and I can be comfortable again. Well wish me luck tomorrow is my first day off cigarettes and its going to be stomach and headache he'll I'm going to use migraine medication and if my stomach gets too nauseated I will hopefully find something that won't constrict with the cleanse. I hardly throw up at all a maximum of 5 times my entire life so I have a pretty strong stomach I just hate feeling like I have to puke I would rather have a knife jabbed in my stomach than feel that way. Haha sorry for the life story. Thanks for this wonderful website it's really helpful!! Good luck everyone |

Hi Ashley,
When you truly understand what this cleanse is all about, you'll realize that one of its most important objectives is to break the body away from all addictive substances - not just substitute one that appears better (for whatever reason) for another.
