The key to The Master Cleanse is the fresh lemon juice, and the living enzymes that it contains. The other ingredients are important as well, but the fresh lemon juice is irreplaceable (although limes can be substituted).
The enzymes in the lemons deteriorate quickly after being released from their cellulose (cell wall) casings, they are also affected by oxidation and the vitamin content may be reduced slightly as a result.
Once the lemons are juiced the beneficial enzymes in the lemon juice begin to break down, it is the general concensus from what I've read that it's best to drink you days supply of the MC/Lemonade within 8 - 10 hours of mixing the ingredients.
Note on maple syrup: Per 10 ounce glass use one Tbsp. of maple syrup for speedier weight loss, use two Tbsp. of maple syrup to meet energy and caloric needs. It is not recommended you use less than one Tbsp. of the maple syrup. As you probably know, the only source of energy on this cleanse is the calories from maple syrup and at only 52 calories per Tbsp. if you use too little it would probably make you feel weak and lethargic.

The herbal laxative tea at night and the SWF in the morning work in conjunction with each other, the herbal laxative tea loosens and the salt water washes the nasty stuff out. Neither one by itself is quite as effective.
