There are some who believe that one of the potential side effects of rapid weight loss (not necessarily the MC itself) is the formation of gallstones. In the case of concerns with gallstones I would recommend you consult a trusted health care professional prior to starting the diet.

Kidney stones are much easier to flush out because the stone may be in the urine stream. The force of the moving urine can force them out. Unfortunately the gall bladder does not work this way, there is no forceful flow at all. When you eat a meal with fat, hormones signal the gallbladder to simply contract. This will empty the bile into the first part of the small intestine, through an orifice the diameter of a pencil lead. Gallstones have a hard time passing through an orfice of this size and are very reluctant to leave the gallbladder, they can be as large the size of a marble. So it's unlikely that the MC or any kind of flush will cause them to pass.

Are you sure you have gallstones, have you had an ultrasound or a positive diagnosis?

Hope this helps.

I'm on day 12 now and still feeling energetic and clear-headed. I intend to stay on the MC until I am guided that it's time to stop or at 40 days, whichever comes first. It feels very 'right' and I am grateful to be able to come in here and read what others are experiencing and also reap the benefits of vegeman's long experience and sound advice.

I've been having classic gallbladder pain for a few days -pain under the right ribs and referred pain a bit further up in my back. I don't want to go to a doctor as I haven't heard of anyone having their stones medically crushed or dissolved -gallbladder removal seems to be what they do here, regardless of severity. I'm determined not to have mine removed and intend to do the olive oil & lemonjuice flush when I come off the MC. But I am a little anxious about what would happen if I had an acute attack and got carted off to hospital as it's unlikely I would be offered a choice of treatment. I took homoeopathic colocynthis late last night and the pain stopped within 10 minutes after which I slept soundly all night. Also prayer and meditation as is my daily practice.

Had some mild pain under the right ribs today and have been searching the internet for natural methods of getting rid of gallstones -there is lots of good advice out there. Haven't had a medical diagnosis, of course, but I'm very tempted to do a gall-bladder flush and wondering whether to stop the MC to do it. Very reluctant to stop the MC as it's feels so good.

Also wondering if it would be ok to take the apple cider vinegar if I have another bout of pain -I know the protocol for the MC is very strict about not adding anything at all to the ingredients and I've been following it to the letter so far.  Hopefully vegeman will be able to advise me on this.

Sorry I'm so late getting back on this, I've been away from the electronic world of computers for a couple days.

I feel that after 10 days of being on the MC/Lemonade Diet one can consider that they've completed a successful cleanse, even if there is more to eliminate, there's always the advantage of continuing or repeating the cleanse a few week later. Although taking the ACV may technically be considered "breaking the cleanse" I think it would be fine at this point and wouldn't be a major influence on your overall cleansing results. However, I would be cautious about doing another dose of colocynthis.

Don't know if you have insurance to cover it, but an ultra sound would be a good idea as far as more confident diagnosis.

Thanks for your reply, vegeman. I haven't had any more pain, fortunately, but am keeping the ACV handy just in case. May I ask why you suggest being "cautious about doing another dose of colocynthis."?

I haven't had any tests done for a gall bladder diagnosis because I'm nervous about getting into the system and having my gall bladder removed against my will. I can't afford medical insurance so it would be in a public hospital and they are not places to feel safe in these days, for many reasons.

No hospital can remove an organ against your will. I do agree with you about hospitals though, many people get sicker while in there - an example would be the fact that over 12,000 die from staph infections in hospitals annually.

An ultrasound is a non-invasive proceedure, although it does cost in the neighborhood of $600.00, but can be as low as $200.00. You will not be admitted for an ultrasound and it generally takes a few day up to a week or so for the results.
