(Warning: may be too gross of a subject for you to read, but important, nonetheless.)

I have a large, protruding belly, no matter how much exercise or eating adjustments I do.  I wish to do another MC this year, and eventually an advanced cleanse.

In the meantime, before I can venture into an advanced cleanse, would anyone know of a way to test (ideally at home) to see whether my protruding belly is the result of impacted fecal matter or just common belly fat?

Thanks in advance.

The only way to test for any kind of obstruction in the bowel at home would be to listen or have someone else listen, a stethoscope would be helpful in this case. The bowel normally makes some sounds, such as gurgling and clicking, which can be heard at irregular intervals through the use of a stethoscope placed on the abdomen. If an obstruction is present, the person listening may instead hear high-pitched sounds while listening to the abdomen. If the obstruction has been present for some time, there may be a complete absence of any bowel sounds.

You made no mention of constipation or how regularly your bowels move. If you had impacted fecal matter or a kink in your colon you would more than likely be constipated.

You also didn't mention if you're experiencing any pain or discomfort which might indicate a more serious disorder.

Another consideration is the consistancy of your stools. There are seven types of stools (faeces) according to the Bristol Stool Chart. The Bristol Stool Chart or Bristol Stool Scale is a medical aid designed to classify faeces into seven groups. Click HERE to review.

Is your belly-button distended (bulging)? Are you (or were you ever) a heavy drinker or drug user? Have you ever had hepatitis? If so, your "bloated stomach" could also be a toxic liver problem or the resulting onset of Ascites.

If it is belly fat (visceral fat), it may be of particular concern because that’s a key player in a variety of health problems — much more so than subcutaneous fat, the kind that is just under the skin and you can grasp with your hand. Visceral fat is out of reach, deep within the abdominal cavity, where it pads the spaces between our abdominal organs.

Visceral fat has been linked to metabolic disturbances and increased risk for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

I am not a doctor, nor am I in a position to diagnose you, but I would recommend you consult with a trusted health care professional before starting or continuing with this cleanse, especially if you are seriously concerned about any of the above conditions.

Hope this helps.
