Hi there....my name is K and I am new here...I am looking to begin a 10 day cleanse tomorrow and hope to find some support from like minded people here...I know I am 5 foot 2 inches tall but I dont know how much I weigh as I have not stepped on my scales since I gave up smoking over a year ago...I know my weight has gone up a bit because my jeans dont fit well any more and so something has to change...I LOVE food... sushi ,chocolate , cakes, marzipan, pasta, bread , cereals  the list of what I like is unending...but I figure if I can quit smoking from one day to the next I can quit stuffing myself until I feel sick...cant I?

I am hoping to begin tomorrow and stay strong and post details every day to keep me motivated...

In the years I've been moderating this forum I have communicated with many people who go on fad diets that address only weight loss and don't really consider aggressive removal of toxins along with a lifestyle change and an awareness of the eating habits that contributed to their unwanted pounds. Yeah, they lose the weight (temporarily), but I can't think of one of these people that didn't gain the weight back (often even more) in a relatively short period of time after they came off their diet.

The Master Cleanse provides an opportunity, not only to lose weight (and keep it off) but to change your life/lifestyle and way of thinking, especially in regard eating and excercise habits. I not only feel it extends your years, it also greatly improves the quality of your life. It takes some serious adjustment to commit to this lifestyle change (especially in the beginning), but in hindsight, I doubt you'll be able to imagine going back to the old indulgent you.

I wont be going back Vegeman...this total abstinence of food is to re-set my mind that I dont need as much food as I thought I did ...no one 'needs' a full pack of speculoos biscuits and just a few weeks ago I realised that despite the 2 I gave to a couple of my kids I had eaten the rest of the packet to myself..and I didnt even fell full...I knew then that something had gone wrong in my brain to stomach signals and had decided to research a way to cold turkey my overeating in the same way I cold turkeyed my smoking over a year ago...it has to be all or nothing and its working!

Today I begin my day 6 with a goal achieved...11st 13.8lbs ...under 12st and a loss of 7.2lbs in total...this gives me a renewed determination that I can do this!

Wow, I admire your willpower. I too quit smoking "cold turkey" 12 years ago and haven't had a puff since. This was after many attempts over the previous years. I used to joke about how easy it is to quit smoking, sarcastically commenting: "It's so easy to quit smoking I do it several times a week".

It's also great that you realized how "brain signals" affect our eating habits. I've found one of the best practices to break this trend is the Buddhist practice of "Mindfullness" or conscious attention. Bringing "Mindfulness" into play before we put anything in our mouths helps us to to learn to attune to our bodies and distinguish between real physical hunger (where your stomach is rumbling and you physically need to eat) and psychological hunger (where cues such as emotions, settings, social occasions and sights and smells of food encourage you to eat). Physical hunger is a useful and appropriate cue to eat - psychological hunger is not.

"Mindfulness" also enables us to eat much slower, actually savoring and thoroughly enjoying each bite of food. Eating in this manner gives our brain time to register the sense of fullness. It is a proven fact that it takes about 20 - 30 minutes for our brains to register this sense of fullness, no matter how much we put in our stomachs during that time. People who eat slowly and mindfully are much less likely to overeat.

What you've expressed has become a worldwide problem, and the blame does not rest entirely on your shoulders. And, we can't expect any help from the food industry...the following from another post:

Quote:
A little research shows that food addiction is similar to drug and alcohol addiction.  Very often for a food addict, processed foods, refined sugars, factory farmed meats and saturated/trans fats become what alcohol is to the alcoholic, or cocaine to the cocaine addict.

When eating food in these groups, the addict sets the phenomenon of "craving" into motion.  Like the drug addict, the food addict experiences withdrawal when attempting to cut down on the foods that trigger cravings.  They can experience both physical and emotional withdrawal such as tremors, cramps, depression, teary periods and even self-hatred.

Food manufacturers have done an exquisite job of recognizing and tapping into our cravings, using persuasive ads and alluring packaging to keep their products tumbling into our shopping carts. These foods contain chemical compounds that stimulate the brain's secretion of opiate-like, "feel-good" chemicals like dopamine, which drive our cravings for them.

The dependence on these "trigger" foods can be overcome by staying on the MC/Lemonade Diet for 10 days or more.  Once the addictive substances are out of the body, the physical cravings leave and the struggle isn't as bad as it once was. These physical cravings do subside and you will have a second chance; and a choice whether to reintroduce the foods that caused the problems in the first place back into your diet. The emotional and mental cravings will still be lurking in the background, but with the establishment of a healthy diet and a lifestyle committed to changing old habits they will eventually be overcome.

I intend this post to be some encouragement for those of you who face these challenges in respect to your relationship with foods, and wish that you succeed with the Master Cleanse program and triumph over all obstacles in your chosen path to well-being.

Congradulations on making it to day 6! Keep up your positive attitude.

Congratulations to you too on 12 years smoke free...thats a target to aim for!

That is very interesting about the 30 minute to register the fullness thing...I will have to factor that in to my regime...I have been very guilty of eating too fast for a LOT of years due to having 6 kids and 8-10 dogs around there was always something that I needed to be getting on with so I hurried up..now I will have to make a concious effort to change that when I go back to eating again

Beginning day 7 here with a weigh in of 11st 13.2lbs which is a loss of 600g (any loss is a loss right)...and feeling good about the whole thing really...I cant forsee any problems reaching the goal day of Thursday and am looking forward to seeing what the total weight loss will be.

Other things to note ( not for the faint hearted) are that heamorroids are eased by the fact that you dont have to strain for number 2's and that due the the frequent loo trips the problem with swollen ankles seem to have gone down a lot too
