Howdy all! Long time lurker, first time posting!
This is my 3rd go round, and finishing my 5th day.
First time, I did 10days , second time I messed up and gave up on day 8(oops!), and THIS time...I'd LIKE to shoot for 20, if not more.
I'm a fellar, in my early 30's and in relatively good health. I only have one kidney(donated the other about 6 years go).
I'd been mulling doing another cleanse for the last half year, and had something come up that made me pull the trigger RIGHT AWAY.
3 weeks ago I had a pain in my lower right abdomen...I thought SURELY it was appendix related.....xrays said I was constipated(though I was easily going 2-3x's a day). So I figured, what the heck...lemonade diet can probably knock it out.
A couple days into it, that lower right abdomen burning, cramping feeling went away, but then I felt the same kind of cramping coming from my kidney area(back just behind my lower ribs)......I thought OH CRAP, maybe the lone kidney isn't liking this go-round.
All through this, I haven't had any SERIOUS/ACUTE pain, just achy, rumbling, crampy feelings. And again, since starting the fast, it's kinda moved around a bit.
All of this cramping/funkyness has remained SOLEY on my right side, but can be in my kidney area, and sometimes around the front side, just under front of lower ribs.
I'm all over the place with this ....blood and urinalysis came up with no alarms, white blood cell count just fine. Dr wants to throw me in a CT scan...but I can't afford it(wonder boy picked the worst insurance plan possible this year
Could all this REALLY be just poo still stuck inside making it's way through? Could I be blocked and only a portion of the stuff is making it's way around a blockage, while the blockage itself is slowly moving through?
I've been doing the ULTIMATE fast(PB shakes and SWF(God help me)) every day. Shake in morning and at night(along with lax tea) and SWF first thing in the morning, followed by another shake. The SWF's are WITHOUT QUESTION making their way through, much to my wife's dismay(butt pee sounds aint pretty 6am in the morning
Question #1- think it's REALLY just cluttered up and could be the reason for my cramping on right side? I feel empty.
Question #2- Anybody ELSE get sore spots on their tongue from the lemonade? Thought it might just be the citrus burning? I had this on my 2nd go(part of reason I quit early), but didn't remember having the first time around. I have a red sore(that seems to be expanding) right on the tip of my tongue.
SORRY FOR THE BOOK! I realize I've been rambling, and apologize for that as well. If anyone has any pointed questions, I'll do my best to bring it together
Appreciate you all and your time! This board is fantastic.

SORRY FOR THE BOOK! I realize I've been rambling, and apologize for that as well. If anyone has any pointed questions, I'll do my best to bring it together Appreciate you all and your time! This board is fantastic. My biggest concern would be "Crohn's Disease" or some sort of inflamatory bowel condition, but the testing you've had done would have found evidence of this (at least I'd think so), plus the fact that the pain is migrating would not make much sense if it were this type of condition.
I would suspect you have a congested colin, your movements partially blocked with mucoid plaque. Click on: That Stubborn "mucoid plaque"...
I would continue with the regime you're on, but only doing the P&B Shakes every other day giving your system a break in between. Make sure you do the herbal laxative tea at night and the SWF every morning, they work in conjunction with each other, the herbal laxative tea loosens and the salt water washes the nasty stuff out. Neither one by itself is quite as effective. It is also very important to stay hydrated with plenty of water in addition to the lemonade as the P&Bs tend to dehydrate and can cause all sorts of bowel problems if not enough liquid is taken.
The sores on your tongue I believe are temporary and are part of the detox. I would suspect they are a sign of your body transitioning from an acid condition to an alkaline one, something quite common and desirable on this cleanse.
Please keep in mind I am not in a position to give medical advise and my recommendations come from my own experience and that of those who have shared their experiences with me. When in doubt, or if these symptoms persist or worsen, it's always best to seek the advise of a trusted health care professional.
I hope this helps.

******Vegeman- I've scheduled a CT scan(JUST to be on the safe side). I have to drink something beforehand(she referenced it as "contrast"....I think)
Do you think this will screw up my cleanse? Not sure what this "contrast" entails.
It'll be on my day 9(I'm SHOOTING for 20 days, total)
Thoughts?

Thoughts? The "contrast" used for either oral or rectal administration is probably a barium sulfate suspension and it is claimed that there is no significant absorption from gastrointestinal tract (some of the additives might be absorbed but with little consequence).
It's probably no threat to the cleanse, since it won't have any real nutritional value, the additives are usually a sweetner of sorts to make it more tolerable in the event you need to drink it. The cleanse will get that stuff out of you shortly after the scan and you may notice whitish, pasty stools as a result.
Please keep us posted on your progress and results.

We'll see whether you still think it's a "welcomed reprieve" after you drink it... When are you going in for your C-scan?

I drank the barium this morning, and when I got there they made me drink a NASTY clear liquid. They WERE going to give me another contract material via IV, but decided against it as to not strain my sole kidney(I donated 8 years back)
It went QUICK. Only 3 passes through the machine. From lying down to getting back up, MAYBE 4 mins. Results Tuesday.
Hey, I HAVE noticed something, the last 2 days I've cut out the PB shakes, and a majority of my front abdomen cramping has subsided. I'm still doing the poo-tea in the evenings and the flush in the morning. Think the PB shakes are causing some funk in my intestines? |

I am often reluctant to recommend the P&B shakes, everyone is different and it's not unusual for some people to have problems with them. Without adequate water they will tend to bind or get stuck if there is an area of the colon that is constricted or has a "kink" in it.
Wishing you the best and keeping my fingers crossed for positive results on Tuesday.

Ok, I'm off the diet. For what it's worth...I think my "issue" is more than the PB shakes...since I've begun eating solid foods(and I did ease into it), I feel the same issues going on. Maybe something IS up with my intestines.
That being said, definitely not having any blockages, because I'm regular(already). Very good movements.
Diverticulosis is (usually) on the LEFT side of the adomen, correct? Regarding Crohns, it sounds like I'd be having diarreah, which I'm not. Neither run in my family, whatsoever. I'm assuming a CT scan would be a GOOD indication of either, or other, right?
VERY anxious for test results. Just dreading the "we can't find anything" answer. It's the story of my LIFE with going to medical professionals.
God, I only WISH I was just a hypocondriac!

Not yet...but if they see anything(and I'm sure, especially if they DON'T see anything), I'm sure it'll be next on the agenda. I've never had one, but am up for anything to get to the bottom of this............pun intended.
edit: Last week, the girl told me results today. I called up and they said it'd be a couple more days. Good grief. |

SO..guess what I heard from the Dr? Drum roll......
"There's nothing acute showing on the CT scan. Keep doing what you're doing".
I have no faith in GP's. I'm trying to get a face to face, then taking all my test results and going to a specialist.
There's no way 1 month of cramping in my side is "nothing to worry about".
Frustrating.

The real shame is that doctors are NOT healers; if they were they would put themselves out of business in a hurry. When you get a "face to face" (and I would demand one) I have found it advisable to write down all your questions and concerns and let the doctor know you would like to discuss these specific topics.
This site may be of some help? Click: Abdominal Pain and symptom chart.

Yes, I know full well they're no healers, just script writers(mostly). HOWEVER, the dr I finally sat with WAS knowledgeable and walked through every bit of all my test results. Next step is colonoscopy. Between now and then, I'm going to try some type of nerve medicine to see if it's muscoloskeletal. I'm up for anything. I won't stop until I get it figured it out.
Found a naturopath, and may make an appointment soon.

There is a large network of sympathetic nerves (ganglia) located in the peritoneal cavity behind and slightly below the stomach which has branching tracts that supply nerve responses to the whole abdominal viscera (between the diaphragm and pelvis, containing the abdominal organs), often making it hard to determine the exact location of the pain, and this commonly accounts for the "migrating" aspect of the discomfort. There are some scientists that claim this solar plexus ganglia contains enough grey matter to constitute a fourth brain.
Hopefully you'll get some satisfying answers soon.

WELP, another $600 out of pocket wasted. Colonoscopy went fine...dr said he didn't see a thing...went into the small intenstines a bit, even looked at the opening to the appendix. Rules out Crohn's, diverticulitis, polyps, Appendicitis, etc.
But still leaves me with a lighter wallet and an ever greater anxious curiosity.
Is it POSSIBLE to inspect the small intestines like they check the colon? Upper GI would only go to the stomach or right out the other side of it, right?
Because the majority of the cramping/burning is on the front/right side, it's just GOT to be GI related, you'd think?
Don't know what to do next......
****and let me tell ya, I thought the sodium laxative would be smooth sailing after 10 days of the salt water flush. HOLY COW, was I wrong. Good gracious.

In addition to the pharynx, esophagus, stomach, an upper GI would show the first part of the small intestine (also known as the duodenum) and would detect ulcers, abnormal growths, scars or strictures (narrowings of the GI tract), hiatal hernia and diverticula in the wall of the upper part of the small intestine.
This web-page might help, click on: Right Side Abdominal Pain
Did the doctor offer any suggestions or recommend any further testing? ...vegeman __________________ LET THE BEAUTY YOU LOVE BE WHAT YOU DO...Rumi

He suggested a Urologist, which is probably in my best interest(having only one kidney, and on this same side). If to no avail, back to GI to do more upper tests(endoscopy and barium xrays, etc).
I'm not giving up on trying to find what this is. I'm not panicked, but I'm not resting easy.........fine line to try and walk. I could start to deal with ANYthing, but it's very difficult when no one can tell you what's wrong with you.

update: full kidney work up done. Perfectly fine. Chiro and another GI doc on Monday. Figured there's a SMALL chance maybe a nerve is getting pinched causing burning/muscle spasms on my one side(reaching for straws)
The new GI, I've been told, is one of the "smartest men" my Urologist knows.
Another thing(that my Urologist never mentioned) but just occurred to me. Because I donated one kidney, I believe the remaining experiences a Compensatory Hypertrophy(enlarges to make up for lack of the 2nd kidney). Maybe it's possible it's gotten just large enough that it's pushing on other things(including nerve endings) in my abdominal cavity?
Praying someday this all comes to a head.

My thoughts: Since there are several major groups of sympathetic ganglia in the abdomen that "telegraph" pain and sensation, it is hard to trace the exact source of your problem. It seems from the chart below that if the kidneys were the source then the affected areas would be in the bladder and/or genitals, or possibly the anal sphincter/rectum.
Just my whatever that's worth?

Not yet. I have yet to have upper GI tests done(hopefully this week).
Great chart above, thank you.
Since my last post I actually looked at my CT's results/report, and it DOES mention the kidney is enlarged to compensate for the lack of the other. I also read a report stating an enlarged kidney can induce stomach cramping and back/flank pain(EXACTLY the two issues I'm having).
So, my agenda for tomorrow- call Urologist in the AM and see if I can get a quick couple questions answered about above possiblity(?), chiro mid afternoon to get some scans done, then initial consult with new GI.
Appreciate all your feedback, vegeman.

I have read that an enlarged kidney commonly will be accompanied by high blood pressure and/or blood in the urine. Have you had any of these symptoms? BTW; I also appreciate you keeping us posted on your findings and results. ...vegeman __________________ LET THE BEAUTY YOU LOVE BE WHAT YOU DO...Rumi

pshew! still here and kicking. Had an ultrasound- came up with nothing. Regarding prior post, urologist said kidney size was fine. Normal hypertophy for losing(giving) the other away.
Next up- full gallbladder workup. Couldn't tell you what the test is called, but it takes an hour and a half.
********Someone suggested to me something that completely slipped my mind and definitely has me curious. I went to Mexico approx 1 month or so before all this begun. And when I mean Mexico, I mean Tijuana/Baja(no touristy locations). Though I didn't drink water, I def had drinks with non-purified ice cubes and ate a TON of local food. Any possibility I picked up some intestinal parasite(s)? Ever hear of a burning sensation associated with such an issue?
Planning on make a call to my GI tomorrow. This NEVER crossed my mind. I must be an idiot.

Planning on make a call to my GI tomorrow. This NEVER crossed my mind. I must be an idiot. The Master Cleanse/Lemonade Diet is pretty good at ridding the body of intestinal parasites and I have never heard of parasites causing a burning sensation, although it's worth a mention to the doc.
Sometimes excess bile (from the gall-bladder) can cause a burning sensation (it is irritating to the colon). Have you noticed any "greenish-tint" to your bowel movements?

No green tint...sometimes a little on the slightly orange-y side, though.
I had my full gallbladder test(they measure the output of the radioactive bile-like material that the gallbladder pushes out in the course of an hour and a half. Completely normal, and addtl updated blood tests came up normal as well.
I have an appointment with the GI dept in one of the best university hospitals in my area mid next month.
Also have an appointment with a naturo-path(of sorts) next month as well.
Just getting tired of not knowing.
Is it possible the burning could be a gluten or lactose intolerance? I haven't been able to directly correlate the flair ups, but who knows.
Quick off topic question....not TOO off topic actually. Do you know anything regarding drinking alkaline water? Is it really a bunch of fooey? Opinion's are like butt holes. And there are a MILLION butt holes online |

If not, follow up by giving up all products containing gluten for a while and see what happens.
As far as alkaline water goes, here's some facts...
- Pure water can never be alkaline or acidic, nor can it be made so by electrolysis. Alkaline water must contain metallic ions of some kind — most commonly, sodium, calcium or magnesium.
- The idea that one must consume alkaline water to neutralize the effects of acidic foods is ridiculous; we prevent an acidic condition with proper diet and we get rid of excess acid by exhaling carbon dioxide.
- If you do drink alkaline water, its alkalinity is quickly removed by the highly acidic gastric fluids in the stomach.
- Uptake of water occurs mainly in the intestine, not in the stomach. But when stomach contents enter the intestine, they are neutralized and made alkaline by the pancreatic secretions — so all the water you drink eventually becomes alkaline anyway.
- The claims about the health benefits of drinking alkaline water are not supported by credible peer reviewed scientific evidence.
Hope this helps.

thanks for the advice.
Any good suggestions for parasite specific cleanses, as well as for the liver? I know the master cleanse should take care of both, to an extent, but very interested in doing a cleanse specifically for both, individually.
Suggestions/Recommendations?
Thanks!
Still waiting for my appointment with new GI mid month(2 appointments, really....with 2 different dr's)

Click on the following...
Parasite Cleanse - The Natural Herbal Way I recommend you do not combine either of these with the MC.

Having an endoscopy tomorrow and a small instestine follow through(I think that's what it is called?) shortly after. New blood test still don't show any changes.
And absolutely no changes to the pain/burning. The craziest thing.....

nothing showed up on the small bowel study or the endoscopy.
I just got my food allergy study results back, and low and behold.....it's saying I need to stay away from chicken? This is the protein staple(almost every day) in our household. Who would have thought!
Cutting it out and we'll see what happens!

cutting out chicken hasn't helped. I'm fresh out of ideas....and energy, to keep digging for other possible causes.
The university hospital dr has all but said she can't figure it out(after she did a small bowel study and upper endoscopy). She said she could give me meds to mask it, but said this was one of "those things" she sees often, that they just can't put a finger on.
No meds for me, I'd rather feel it and know if it ever goes away, then take ANY kind of meds indefinitely.
Still on my crazy strict diet(no gluten, no dairy, no caffeine, no chicken) and I feel great, otherwise. Just praying it's only for a season.
Thanks for all of your correspondence here. Your knowledge and suggestions have been outstanding and appreciated!

FINALLY getting somewhere. New Doctor thought to run an ANA blood test. It Showed positive for SS-B (POSSIBLY indicative of Sjogren's Syndrome).
After reading a bunch online....possible small intestine symptoms. It's an auto-immune disease that attacks moisture producing glands, and a host of other issues.
Vegeman, ever heard of it?

Wow, we learn something new everyday. I have never heard of either the ANA blood test or SS-B.
It's been a long hard road for you, trying to get a proper diagnosis, I hope this time you they find something conclusive and effect a cure. Please keep us posted.
