Hello folks. I am on my second day of my second cleanse. I did one three and a half years ago and it changed my life in a positive way. This time, the lemonade smell and taste turns my stomach. I am drinking it anyway. I have an easier time taking a teaspoon of the syrup rather than mixing it in the drink. The combination of the lemon and maple tastes awful. Is it okay to decrease the amount of maple syrup and take it by the teaspoon? Much more palatable that way. I also need to add a little more water to get it down. Otherwise, I am following the directions to the "t."

First day, major headaches. After the SWF this morning, I feel so much better. What a wonderful thing that is. I think I have serious caffeine withdrawal and my diet has not been so good lately. But I have decided to stick with it because I know the results were life changing. I would encourage anyone thinking about quitting to give it a shot, because the detox symptoms ease up after a few days.

Each Tbsp. of maple syrup = 52 calories, so that would be about 300 calories a day. For more rapid weight loss less than the 2 Tbsp. of maple syrup may be used, but not less than 1 Tbsp. per 10 ounce glass. Without enough sweetner your energy will bottom out and the cleanse will be less effective, I don't recommend trying that..

Agave nectar has a low glycemic index (32) as compared to Maple Syrup (54) and can be substituted for the Maple Syrup, measure for measure.

When Burroughs wrote the Master Cleanse booklet I don't think Agave was a consideration at that time, so he recommended molasses which has the minerals that the pancreas needs to function normally.

As you probably know, the only source of energy on this cleanse is the calories from whatever sweetner you choose, attempting it with no sweetner at all would probably make you feel weak and lethargic. It is always good, if you fear diabetes, to make regular checks of the sugar level in your urine and blood to satisfy yourself and eliminate any possible fear.

I hope this helps.

Vegeman,
Thanks for your reply. I have read some of the posts on here, and see that I can use Agave. Wish I knew that before finding out about my maple syrup issue. I spent 40 bucks for a half gallon, so I am going to try to stick it out. Funny that I love maple syrup in general, just not mixed with lemons.

I'm totally stoked for doing this again.  My main objective is to control asthma and allergies, which were completely relieved last time I did this. I'm already feeling better.

One positive thing to doing this cleanse is I become open to finding new ways to promote my own wellness. I get a little tired of the same old treatments for my ailments that I quickly become dependent on. You know, inhalers, pills, getting the message that my condition is improved if my symptoms are in control. Know what I mean? If I'm well, wouldn't I not have symptoms that need contolling?

Peace,
Amy

The taste of the lemonade may well be altered by the lemons...under/over ripe lemons would definately make a difference. Don't use any with green ends or streaks, also make sure they are firm but not real hard or soft. Meyers lemon are worth a try, if you can find them.
